Hispanic Heritage Month: Is It Ok to Speak Spanish at Work?
The phone rings at the office and it’s my sister in Miami and I automatically switch into Spanish to speak to her. A member of the Latino affinity group greets me in Spanish, “Que tal?”, in the hallway and I reply, “Muy bien! Y tu?” I’m in line at the cafeteria during lunch and I chat in Spanish with one of the food servers about Da Bears. Are these Spanish conversational exchanges appropriate in the workplace?
